This morning, we had spent it inside as it was windy outside. Ryder was doing some cutting at the table. He was practicing his scissor skills and cutting his paper into strips. Weston was doing some colouring-in. He was colouring each section of the picture a different colour. Isaiah was helping Miss Jade and Miss Mel organise the art and craft area. He placed all the whiteboard rubbers onto the tray. Nicole was playing in home corner and pretending to look after her baby. Mason was asking Miss Jade where the school children were going. Miss Jade replied, “They are going on an excursion.” “What’s an excursion?” He asked. “It is where the children leave the kindy to go out and about together.”
This morning for group time, Charlie lead our Acknowledgement to Country. Leo then chose someone from the bowl which was the person who the children were going to focus on this week. Leo had chosen Irina. Irina shared that her family come from China and speak Chinese. Miss Jade asked her what Chinese she spoke and replied, “Mandarin.” “How do you say ‘Hello’ in Mandarin?” Miss Jade asked. “I don’t know” Irina replied. So, we looked on the computer and found out that they say “Ni Hao.” The children then completed the roll in Mandarin and helped Miss Jade count the number of children that were here today.
Isaiah then chose the ‘Days of the Week’ song and we completed the calendar. Ryder did the weather and said that it was “Sunny and windy.”
Next, we practiced ‘Herman the Worm’ and the ‘Gummy Bear’ dance.
Miss Jade then revised over the kindergarten rules and the use of toilet words. The children agreed that these were bucket dipper words and were unkind.
Today for our learning experiences, we had outdoor play.
Nicole and Charlie heard the song ‘Gummy Bear’ play and practiced the actions.
Zeke, Adrian and Caleb were playing with the Pokemon cards. The children looked through the cards and discussed the types of characters they saw and what they thought each character did.
Malia and Irina were playing with the Barbies. The children have been very interested in these and were discussing the characters that each doll was. “That’s Cinderella” Irina said and “That’s Ariel” said Malia.
Weston and Isaiah were on the balancing boards. The children practiced their balancing skills and they rocked their bodies side to side to stay atop of it.
Kalani was playing with the monster truck. He was driving his car around the trees.
Ryder, Leo, Mason and Jack were playing ‘Hide and Seek’ tag. In this game, the person who was it had to find the other children and try to tag the closest person to be ‘It’ next.
Emilio was building with the Brio. He was using the screwdrivers, wrenches and hammers to attach the wooden pieces together.
Mia enjoyed playing with the Ooshies and small toys. She was organising the round animals together.
The children lined up at the door with their hats and shoes on. The children engaged in outdoor play.
Today for table experiences, the children enjoyed letter tracing, drawing, dominoes, floor puzzles and home corner.
We engaged in the story ‘Wombat Stew.’ Miss Jade asked the children whether they knew what country the story was based in. “Australia!” Zeke and Ryder said. “How did you know it was in Australia?” Miss Jade asked. “Because they are Australian animals.” Zeke replied. We went through the story and discussed how the dingo, wombat, emu, koala, platypus, kookaburra and blue-tongued lizard are Australian animals.
The children went over the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that each letter made. Then, the children chose a letter to focus on for the day. We looked at the sound it made and how to write the uppercase and lowercase. Next, the children chose a song to engage in and the children brainstormed words that began with this letter.
Miss Jade spoke about ‘The Star of the Day’ and what it was. This was for someone who has made positive choices in kindergarten today. Today, it went to Irina.
Please bring in spare clothes for children as the children often engage in water play. Please ensure all toys stay at home as the children will lose or break them. If you can, can you please purchase a class bottle of sunscreen for the children. Please ensure your child brings their Show and Tell on the correct day.
