This morning, we had a special helper come to spend some time with us. We had Miss Taylor who was a year 10 student doing some volunteering work. Outside, Malia and Nicole were doing some drawings. Malia was drawing her “Mum and Dad,” while Nicole was drawing the sea. Miss Jade asked her what animals she was going to draw. She replied, “sharks and fish.” Miss Jade asked her what other animals can be found in the ocean. She replied, “octopus, dolphins…” “How about jellyfish and turtles?” Miss Jade asked. “Yes!” She said. “You should draw jellyfish,” Nicole said. Miss Jade drew some jellyfish and asked her “What are these long things that hang down from the head of the jellyfish?” Nicole replied, “I don’t know.” “They start with a T” Miss Jade said. “Tentacles!” replied Nicole. On the ground, Jack and Kai were building a tower out of the curved, wooden blocks. Jack first lined up a few blocks on the ground next to each other. Then, he had to carefully stack blocks on top of them. Kai also helped Jack place the blocks on top of each other. It was very tricky to stack them as they were slippery and curved.

At group time, we completed our Acknowledgement to Country. Then, Miss Jade completed the roll. Once the roll was finished, the children helped count how many friends were here today.

Miss Jade then asked the children what they did on the weekend. Leo went to Emilio and Kalani’s birthday party, Kalani had his birthday party, Noah and Lilo went to Emilio’s birthday party, Ryder went to Emilio’s birthday party, Emilio had his birthday party, Mason went to the beach and surfed and Jack did some skateboarding.

We then sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Kalani as today was his birthday. Mia then chose the ‘Days of the week’ song and we completed the calendar. Nicole did our weather saying it was “Sunny and windy.” Isaiah then chose a song which was ‘The Wheels on the Bus.’

Today we had Isaiah, Kai, Jack and Noah share their Show and Tell. This week’s topic was collections. Isaiah brought in his collection of dinosaurs alongside a really cool book with images of dinosaurs. Kai also brought in his dinosaur and said he has many dinosaurs at home. Jack collected watches and brought in a spy watch which not only told the time, but had a light and beeped. Lastly, Noah brought in his shell collection. These were from the beach and the big one was from his grandma. Thank you everyone for sharing!

Today at activity time, Mason, Ryder, Leo and Jack were playing the tooth-brushing activity. The children had to clean the teeth with the toothbrush as it was covered in playdough (plaque). Last week we explored dental hygiene and Miss Jade asked the children if they remember the word for the bacteria that is on the teeth. “Plaque” Miss Jade said, “It is the germs that get on your teeth which is why we must brush them at least twice a day.”

Supporting Mia’s interest in unicorns, we had this letter U activity where the children were able to make unicorns. Gluing down the letter U onto their sheet of paper, the children had to glue on a head, glue eyes, draw a face, glue a tail and mane and used glitter paint to decorate their magnificent unicorns. This activity assisted the children with the letter recognition and fine-motor. Kalani, Mia, Edie and Nicole were so excited to make their own unicorns.

Adrian was playing with the cars. He was racing his car along the shelf and the bumpy blocks. Malia and Isaiah were playing with the marble run. Malia was the one in charge of the building was Isaiah was waiting patiently for her to finish so he could roll them down. Noah and Lilo were playing with the 2D magnetic shapes. Noah had the idea of making a castle, so Lilo assisted him in building the walls. The castle had a long hallway where it led to the queen’s bedroom.

Irina was playing with the wooden, number counting. She first would add the number of balls which was displayed on each block and when they were completed, she ordered them from highest to lowest with 10 being the highest number. Emilio was doing some drawing. He was making a treasure map. When he finished making his map, he turned it into a telescope. Kai was doing some shopping in home –corner. He took the shopping cart around and went through the cupboards to see what things he needed to buy. Gideon and Zayden were playing with the emotion game. The children had to match the pieces of the faces and see if they could complete each emotion.

For table activities, the children enjoyed magazine cutting and gluing, magnetic name making, wooden number counting, magnetic stix, home-corner and Happy Hammer Geo.

The children chose the phonics song to engage in and we then discussed the letter of the week which was the letter U. We spoke about the sound it made and what the capital and lower-case U looks like. Then, Miss Jade read a story about a word that began with the letter U.

Miss Jade spoke about ‘The Star of the Day’ and what it was. This was for someone who has made positive choices in kindergarten today. Today, it went to Zayden.

Please bring in your family photos for our ‘Family Tree.’ Please bring in spare clothes for children as the children often engage in water play. Please ensure all toys stay at home as the children will lose or break them. Please ensure your child brings their Show and Tell on the correct day.
