This morning outside, Adrian asked Miss Jade if she could set up an experience with dinosaurs and water. Miss Jade brought out the tuff tray and Adrian brought out the dinosaurs and Miss Jade filled the tray with water and the children were so excited to play. Isaiah, Edie, Zeke, Kalani, Adrian and Weston enjoyed the dinosaurs and were making it a dinosaur park. The dinosaurs were stomping around in the water. Weston, Kalani and Isaiah were spotting their names on the dog. “Where’s your name Isaiah?” Kalani asked. The children were looking round to find Isaiah’s name. Miss Jade gave them a clue and said that his name started with the letter I. Kalani looked around and pointed to Isaiah’s name. “Here it is!” Kalani said.

This morning for group time, Zeke lead our Acknowledgement to Country.

This week we have been exploring China as this is the country that we are exploring. Irina shared that she comes from China and speaks Chinese. The Chinese that she spoke Mandarin. She told us that to say ‘Hello’ is “Ni Hao.” The children completed the roll in Mandarin and helped Miss Jade count the number of children who were here today. Leo then asked if we could learn about the foods that were eaten in China. Miss Jade asked the children who had eaten Chinese food before and many hands were up. The children had eaten foods such as prawns (Kalani), rice (Adrian) and fried rice (Zeke). We then watched a video on various food from China. We saw that they enjoy spicey foods, chicken, drink soy milk and eat steamed buns. We learnt that soy milk comes from a plant and is blended up to make a milk. Steamed buns were a fluffy bread with delicious meats, vegetables or sweets on the inside. Miss Jade shared that steaming was the process where foods are placed into a steamer which had water at the bottom. Cooking it on top of the stove, the water would boil and create steam. This would then cook the food in the steamer.

Isaiah then chose the ‘Days of the Week’ song and we completed the calendar. Kalani did the weather and said it was “Sunny and windy.”

Today we had Adrian, Emilio and Noah share their books for Show and Tell. The topic this week is ‘Favourite Book.’ Adrian brought a book about a shark going to school. He gave us a retell and told us about how the shark was sad because he didn’t have any friends. Emilio brought in a dinosaur pop-up book. Miss Jade shared that this book was written in Spanish as his family speak it at home. He loved this book because his mother read it to him regulary. Noah brought in a clock book which teaches us about time. He told us that when the big hand is on the 12, it is “Something o’clock.” The number that the little hand was on, was what the time was. Thank you for sharing boys!

Today for our learning experiences, we had indoor play.

Mia had an interest in centipedes, so we had a discussion about what a centipede looked like and what features it had. Centipedes and millipedes were similar, but the differences were that millipedes had less legs and their legs were underneath their bodies rather than beside. They also have feelers which were used to feel around them so they know where they were going. Miss Jade set up an activity where the children made their own centipedes. The children had to sticky tape on pipe cleaners as their legs, rolled up some crepe paper for their head. Used straws as their feelers, buttons as their eyes and glued on a mouth. Kalani, Emilio, Noah, Mia and Edie participated in this experience.

Sarah and Maya were playing with the resin insect lifecycle. The children were observing the life-cycle of the bee and caterpillar. Sarah asked Miss Jade, “What insect is this?” Miss Jade replied, “This is a bee. There are 3 types of them. Worker, drone and queen.”

Leo, Mason, Hermeros, Zeke and Leo were lucky enough to join Vacation Care’s incursion for bugs. The children were able to see spiders, grasshoppers, stick insects, leaf insects and they learnt information such as how spiders have skeletons when they grow.

Malia and Isaiah were doing some drawings. They were both doing some drawings of rainbows. Isaiah also drew a picture of a centipede with many legs.

Weston and Adrian were playing in home corner. They were doing some cooking and making a delicious salad.

Irina was playing with the scales. She was placing items on each side of the scale and trying to balance the scales.

Ceylon was building with the Brio. She was joining the wooden pieces together and hammering or screwing them together.

The children lined up at the door with their hats and shoes on. The children engaged in outdoor play.

Today for table experiences, the children enjoyed emotions game, drawing, writing, home corner and scales.

The children went over the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that each letter made. Then, the children chose a letter to focus on for the day. We looked at the sound it made and how to write the uppercase and lowercase. Next, the children chose a song to engage in and the children brainstormed words that began with this letter.

Miss Jade spoke about ‘The Star of the Day’ and what it was. This was for someone who has made positive choices in kindergarten today. Today, it went to Maya.

Please bring in spare clothes for children as the children often engage in water play. Please ensure all toys stay at home as the children will lose or break them. If you can, can you please purchase a class bottle of sunscreen for the children. Please ensure your child brings their Show and Tell on the correct day.
