This morning was spent indoors as it was raining. Weston and Emilio were playing with the 3D magnetic blocks. Weston was making a ‘Transformer.’ Miss Jade asked him what Transformer he was making and he replied, “Bumblebee.” He told Miss Jade that Bumblebee was his favourite Transformer. Emilio was making shapes out of the blocks. He asked Miss Jade if she could make a circle. She said, “Look Emilio, you’ve nearly made a circle. You need one more of those pieces.” he added the piece to his creation which had created a circle. Miss Jade turned one of the blocks around and asked him, “What shape is this?” “Square!” He replied. Miss Jade then found another block and asked him what the shape was. He replied, “I don’t know.” Miss Jade gave him a hint with a “T – T –T sound.” “Triangle!” he replied.
At group time, we completed our Acknowledgement to Country. Miss Jade then introduced some cards with all the children’s faces and backgrounds on them. Zayden chose Leo and this week we were going to be learning about Australia. We spoke about how Australian’s speak English and to greet someone, they say “Good Morning,” “Hello,” or “G’Day. The children chose one of these to complete the roll in. Kalani then asked if we could learn about Quokkas. Adrian asked to learn about crocodiles. So, we first discussed what a quokka was. The children said that it was small, brown and furry. We then explored further and learnt that they are the size of a cat. They have teeth which they can bite and are nocturnal. This meant that they come out at night. We also learnt that they are marsupials which meant that they have a pouch. We then discussed what we knew about crocodiles. The children said that they eat meat and have sharp teeth. We then explored further and learnt that they are much larger than alligators. Crocodiles have a more triangular snout and have more visible teeth.
Once the roll was finished, the children helped count how many friends were here today. We did our calendar and Irina completed the weather saying that it was ‘Cloudy and rainy.”
This week, our Show and Tell theme was mystery bag. Today, Kalani, Emilio and Ryder brought in their mystery items. Kalani brought in his Spiderman with his Spiderman motorbike. He received this for his birthday. Emilio brought in some transportation. He brought in a Paw Patrol car, Bumblebee and police car. Ryder brought in his spinning tops. There were so many of them and were fun to play.
Today for activity time, Mia, Sarah, Ceylon and Irina were playing alphabet bingo with Mr Rei. To play this game, each child had a board. Mia was in charge of picking up the letters. One at a time, she would call out a letter and if the other children had that on their board, they were able to cover it up. The first person to get 4 in a row either horizontally or vertically were to call out “Bingo!” and were the winner. This game was amazing for letter recognition and sounds, turn-taking, rule following, resilience and team-playing.
Edie, Maya and Adrian were making some vampires for the learning of the letter V. The children had a paper plate with eyes already cut out. The children had to carefully glue on hair, eyebrows, and a bow tie onto it. Kalani and Isaiah did some colouring-in. The children found some Optimus Prime colouring-in sheets and used coloured pencils to colour in between the lines. This was great for their fine-motor skills and pencil-holding. Emilio and Lilo were playing with the Brio on the mat. Emilio was assembling all the pieces into a dog. Lilo was making a car. Weston and Ryder were playing with Isaiah’s ball. The children were practicing to throw and catch it to each other. The children showed great hand-eye coordination when passing it to each other.
The children placed their hats and shoes on and lined up at the door for outdoor activities.
For table activities, the children enjoyed Brio, drawing, home-corner, number counting and play dough.
The children chose the phonics song to engage in and we then discussed the letter of the week which was the letter V. We spoke about the sound it made and what the capital and lower-case V looks like. Then, Miss Jade read a story about a word that began with the letter V. The children then engaged in letter V games.
Miss Jade spoke about ‘The Star of the Day’ and what it was. This was for someone who has made positive choices in kindergarten today. Today, it went to Ryder.
Today Edie and Sarah brought in some delicious party treats to celebrate their birthday. Edie brought in cupcakes made by Miss Jade and Sarah had cupcakes and jelly cups. There were balloons, party bags, party blowers and party hats too!
Please bring in your family photos for our ‘Family Tree.’ Please bring in spare clothes for children as the children often engage in water play. Please ensure all toys stay at home as the children will lose or break them. If you are able to, can you please purchase a class bottle of sunscreen for the children. Please ensure your child brings their Show and Tell on the correct day. Miss Jade will be away next week so you will have Mr Don and Miss Vanessa.
